The bulk of the clock business is made up by utilitarian clocks, often inexpensive and only meant to be practical. A new and relatively recent development is the introduction of clocks as a part of an overall home décor scheme. Some clocks are true reproductions of antique originals, others are fancy and original deigns.

When Renaissance scientists had their portraits done, the “symbols of their trade’ usually were globes and hourglasses. The hourglass was the ubiquitous symbol of time. Our 30-minute glass is an exact reproduction of an 18th century original issued by the French Admiralty Board for use on the Admiral's vessel.
