Gee Bee #11 Speedster
The Gee Bee "R-1" model was designed and built specifically for the 1932 Races by Granville Brothers Aircraft.

While at Cleveland on August 31, 1932 Flying Ace Jimmy Doolittle pushed the powerful 750 Horsepower engine to set a world's land speed mark. He acomplished this on a three k. course that was set up for a series of speed dashes sponsored by the Shell Oil Co. , Doolittle made four runs averaging 293.193 mph. Unfortunately this did not qualify as an official record since he didn't have a barograph in the plane to confirm that he was below the required 50 meters. Doolittle made four more runs the next day averaging 282.672 mph, coming up .77 mph shy of setting a new record. On his final run it appeared to the horrified spectators that he was about to brush some trees just north of the field. Later Jimmy said, "I was nowhere near them. I must have been at least four feet over them."

Our model is copied down to the last decal detail and intricate engine design with real metal detail .
