SL046Lamps and lightingFrench Lantern
It was a heart stopping moment encountering this lantern at an obsure auction in Paris. Utilitarian, Attractive and historical to boot. Somehow French tool and instrument makers excelled in adding a little moulding here, a nick or twist there resulting in a product of unsurpassed elegance and appeal. Our lantern once lighted dinners and dscussions of strategy during expeditions of the Colonial Army, an army still in existance today.... quarter in Tahiti, Saigon, Casablanca, Martinique. The Army inventory was melted down to make bullet casings during WWII which is the reason that these are extremely rare. Our exact repica is fitted with a high quality origional oil burner. Hand blown glass, aged bronze finish, hand rubbed to give the exact look and feel of its origional. Practical, decorative.... totally unique! 14.25 x 17.75' |
