Seahorse Trade Sign, Two Sided

 
A horse with a fish tail, riding the waves. Sailor’s stories about huge octopuses keeping ships in a deadly embrace, early sailor's imagination sometimes ran wild.

A classic trade sign used by Victorian merchants. Many people could not read, these signs needed to give the passerby an idea of the kind of services available. What could this Seahorse say? My guess is maybe a tavern in an coastal port.

Our three dimensional hollow trade sign is completely handmade from recycled tin sheets, hammered into shape on a wood mold by master tinsmiths. Then hand painted and beautifully distressed for an antique finish.
