Developed by cartographer Gerardus Mercator His maps and globes were developed as a navigation tool. the grid is rectangular and lines of latitude and longitude are all parallel. Mercator lines are of constant compass bearing ... perfect for "true" direction. If a navigator wishes to sail from Spain to the Americas, all they have to do is draw a line between the two points and the navigator knows which compass to follow until they reach their destination. This is an exact reproduction globe made from the engraved charts made in 1541 . A reprint of the original copperplate gores made in cooperation with the Royal Library in Bruxelles. This globe hangs from hand turned and polished bronze hooks. Comes complete with Three hanging rods and hook hardware for your ceiling.
