MC814 Antique Maps1604 World Map, Plancius Planisphere
Our giclee print wall map is printed on waterproof fabric and hangs from lightly distressed French finished wood slats.
Petrus Plancius was both a practicing theologian and a skilled cartographer. He became a minister in Amsterdam in 1585 and also became famous as an astronomer. Plancius made his famous large size wall map of the known world in 1592. An incredible effort and one of the most decorative and detailed maps ever made. Updated with the latest discoveries… Interestingly, this map shows empty cartouches, as Plancius was probably still trying to get a royal sponsorship for his work when this print was made.
The Original can be found in the Bibliotheque nationale de France.
This image is transferred onto the canvas using the giclee printing method. (Giclee (pronounced Gee’clay) is a French term) With this method no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore there is no visible dot screen pattern. The image has all the tonalities and hues of the original work. Giclee is UV resistant. Colors won't fade. Measures 53" x 32.7" |
