Rain Drums were often used in ceremonies to communicate with the gods in the Dong Son culture. Crafted by artisans in Southeast Asia, the rain drums imatate the sounds made of Monsoon rains beating on drum heads. It was also believed that the drum’s symbols of power and fertility (frogs, elephants, a radiating sun) accorded good fortune and prestige to its owner. This is a Replica of an original, Cast in Bronze and antiqued in a beautiful patina. The bronze drum was traditionally hung horizontally for sound quality when beat on. A radiating sun design cast into the center of the drum head. In contemporary use the drum can be used as a table (a glass top can be added), a stool... or simply as tasteful décor.
